Merit Janow

Merit Janow is the non-executive independent chair of Mastercard and a law professor at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, where she was faculty dean from 2013 to 2021. Previously, Janow was an elected member of the World Trade Organization’s Appellate Body, executive director of the US Justice Department’s international antitrust advisory committee from 1997-2000, and deputy assistant US trade representative for Japan and China in the executive office of the president from 1989 to 1993. Earlier in her career, she was Nasdaq Stock Market chair for nearly a decade. Janow is a board member of the Japan Society and the National Committee on US China Relations; she is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Trilateral Commission.Bio coming soon.
