Michael Bennet is a Democratic member of the US Senate from Colorado, since 2009. He was initially appointed to a vacant seat, then elected in 2010 and reelected in 2016. Bennet currently serves on the agriculture, nutrition, and forestry; finance; and intelligence committees. In 2019, he was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for president of the United States. From 2005 to 2009, Bennet was superintendent of Denver Public Schools, where he led reform efforts that resulted in sustained academic improvement for students. Before that, he was chief of staff to former Denver mayor John Hickenlooper and managing director at Anschutz Investment Company, where he worked to restructure failing businesses and helped create a large movie theater chain.
