Mike Boots is senior director of advocacy and government relations at Gates Ventures, the private office of Bill Gates, directing climate and energy efforts among other duties. Previously, he was a Senior Fellow at the Aspen Institute, advising on issues at the intersection of business, civil society, and the environment. Before that, Boots led the White House Council on Environmental Quality and was President Obama’s environmental advisor in 2014 and 2015, spearheading initiatives on climate change, conservation, federal supply-chain sustainability, drought, and resilient infrastructure. Earlier, he held positions related to energy and the environment at a public affairs firm, for California’s governor, in the nonprofit sector, and in the Clinton administration.
