Michael Dowling is president and CEO of Northwell Health, the largest health care provider and private employer in New York State, overseeing a rapidly expanding clinical, research, and academic enterprise. Dowling detailed his and Northwell’s experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic in “Leading Through a Pandemic: The Inside Story of Humanity, Innovation, and Lessons Learned During the COVID-19 Crisis.” Previously, he was senior vice president at Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield and served in leadership roles in New York State government. Dowling was professor of social policy and assistant dean at the Fordham University Graduate School of Social Services and directed the Fordham Westchester campus. An Irish immigrant, Dowling co-authored, “After the Roof Caved In: An Immigrant’s Journey from Ireland to America.” He also co-authored “Health Care Reboot: Megatrends Energizing American Medicine.” Dowling has been honored with many awards throughout his career.
