Mike Signer is vice president and general counsel of WillowTree, serving on the digital products firm’s executive team. He’s a member of the Charlottesville, VA, City Council, having served as mayor from 2016 to 2018. Signer was previously managing principal of Madison Law and Strategy Group; his public-service career includes working on the Obama transition team and with former Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe from his campaign through his governorship. Signer is the author of Demagogue: The Fight to Save Democracy from Its Worst Enemies and Becoming Madison: The Extraordinary Origins of the Least Likely Founding Fathers. He has written for The Atlantic, The Washington Post, TIME, Vox, and The New Republic.
