Muriel Bowser is mayor of Washington, DC. She is the second person to be elected three times as D.C. mayor and the first African American woman to be elected to three, four-year terms as mayor of a U.S. city. As mayor, Bowser’s focus is the district’s global and national competitiveness, affordable housing production, diversifying the economy, and increasing satisfaction in city services. Prior to becoming mayor in 2015, she was the Ward 4 member on the Council of the District of Columbia from 2007 to 2015, serving as chair of the Committee on Economic Development. Previously, Bowser was an advisory neighborhood commissioner from 2004 to 2006.
