Nancy Pelosi is speaker of the US House of Representatives. Now in her third term, she made history in 2007 as the first woman elected to this position and again in January 2019 when she regained it, the first person to do so in more than 60 years. Since 1987, Pelosi has represented San Francisco, California’s 12th congressional district. She has led House Democrats for 17 years and previously served as House Democratic Whip. Before her first election to Congress, Pelosi served in several Democratic Party roles, including Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee finance chair, Democratic National Convention host committee chairwoman, and Democratic National Committee member representing California, from 1976 to 1996. In 2013, she was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame.
