Newsha Ajami is the chief strategic development officer for research in the Earth and Environmental Sciences Area at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. A hydrologist and expert in sustainable water resource management and urban water policy, in this role she develops and leads research initiatives at the nexus of water, energy and carbon. Previously, Ajami was director of urban water policy at Stanford University, a senior research associate at Pacific Institute, and a consultant with Berkeley Economic Consulting, among other roles. She is a mayoral appointee to the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, serves on the National Academies Water Science and Technology Board, is a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institute, and sits on several advisory boards.
