Patrick Brown is founder and CEO of Impossible Foods, which makes meats and cheeses from plant ingredients. He is also a founder of Lyrical Foods, maker of Kite Hill nut-based cheeses, and the Public Library of Science, a nonprofit publisher. Brown was previously a biochemistry professor and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator at Stanford University School of Medicine, where his research group discovered the biochemical mechanism by which HIV inserts its genes into human cells, among other accomplishments. A member of the National Academy of Sciences and Institute of Medicine, Brown received the American Cancer Society Medal of Honor and the NAS Award in Molecular Biology.
