Paul Carrese is the founding director of the School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership at Arizona State University. Prior to this, he was a political science professor at the U.S. Air Force Academy for nearly two decades. There, Carrese co-founded and directed its Great Books honors program. He is the author of Democracy in Moderation and The Cloaking of Power. Carrese has also published on George Washington, statesmanship, and American constitutionalism, grand strategy, and civic education. He co-authored the 2021 U.S. Department of Education and National Endowment for the Humanities-funded study on K-12 civic education, “Educating for American Democracy.” Carrese is a fellow of the Civitas Institute at University of Texas at Austin.
