Polly Trottenberg is deputy secretary at the U.S. Department of Transportation. Its No. 2 official and COO supporting Secretary Pete Buttigieg, she has helped lead the agency’s implementation of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, among other efforts. In 2023, she was also acting administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration. Trottenberg was previously New York City’s transportation commissioner for seven years, running a 5,800-person agency, helping implement the Vision Zero program, and leading the agency through COVID-19 response and recovery. In the Obama administration, she was assistant secretary and undersecretary for policy at USDOT. And she worked in the U.S. Senate for 12 years for three senators: Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Charles Schumer and Barbara Boxer.
