Rachel Herz is a neuroscientist at Brown University specializing in perception, emotion, memory, learning, cognition, social interactions and motivated behavior. Her work focuses on the sense of smell with offshoots into food and taste and has applications from addiction to gender identity to cultural preservation to climate change. Herz has received numerous awards and grants, has research collaborations with scientists in the United States and Europe and is involved in training, outreach and advocacy with major non-profit organizations. She has published 105 research papers, twice been a TEDx speaker and is a co-author of the college textbook “Sensation & Perception.” Herz authored three popular science books: “The Scent of Desire: Discovering Our Enigmatic Sense of Smell,” “That’s Disgusting: Unraveling the Mysteries of Repulsion” and “Why You Eat What You Eat: The Science Behind Our Relationship with Food.”
