Richard Buery is CEO of Robin Hood, a New York poverty-fighting organization. Advancing equal opportunity throughout his career, he was previously CEO of Achievement First, a charter-school network across New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island. As deputy mayor of New York City from 2014 to 2018, Buery was the key architect of the free Pre-K for All program and launched the mental health reform initiative ThriveNYC, among other achievements. Prior to that, he was CEO of child-welfare organization Children’s Aid, led public policy for KIPP; founded a support organization for public-housing residents in Brooklyn and co-founded the national college persistence nonprofit iMentor. Earlier, Buery was a staff attorney at the Brennan Center for Justice, a teacher in Zimbabwe, and founded his first nonprofit while still in college.
