Richard Stengel is a journalist, editor, and on-air analyst at MSNBC. He served as undersecretary of state for public diplomacy and public affairs from 2013 to 2016. Stengel was previously the editor of TIME for seven years and a longtime writer and editor for the magazine before that. From 2004 to 2006, he was president of the National Constitution Center. Stengel collaborated with Nelson Mandela on the South African leader’s autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom, from 1992 to 1994, and later wrote the best-seller Mandela’s Way about the experience. Author of the forthcoming book, Information Wars: How We Lost the Global Battle Against Disinformation, he has written several other books.
