Rita Baranwal is chief technology officer at Westinghouse, leading the company’s global research and development investments. With over 24 years of nuclear industry experience, she was most recently chief nuclear officer and vice president of nuclear at the Electric Power Research Institute. Previously, Baranwal was assistant secretary for the Office of Nuclear Energy in the US Energy Department, directed Idaho National Laboratory’s Gateway for Accelerated Innovation in Nuclear (GAIN) initiative, and held positions at Westinghouse including director of technology development and application. Earlier in her career, she was a manager in materials technology at Bechtel Bettis. Baranwal is a Fellow of the American Nuclear Society and serves on advisory boards for the nuclear engineering departments of University of Michigan and North Carolina State University.
