Robert Wachter

Robert Wachter is a professor and chair of the Department of Medicine at University of California, San Francisco. He coined the term “hospitalist” in 1996 and is often considered the father of the hospitalist field. Past president of the Society of Hospital Medicine and past chair of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Wachter received the John M. Eisenberg Award for patient safety in 2004. Modern Healthcare magazine has ranked him one of the country’s most influential physician-executives for ten years (No. 1 on the 2015 list). He is the author of 250 articles and six books, including the New York Times science best-seller The Digital Doctor.
