Rouba Mhaissen is an economist, activist, and development practitioner who works on development issues in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region, particularly forced migration and the Syrian refugee crisis. She is founder and director of Sawa Foundation and Sawa for Development and Aid, civil society organizations working with Syrian refugees on an integrated approach to development since 2011. She previously worked with Lebanese, Iraqi, and Palestinian refugees. Mhaissen has long been involved in lobbying and advocacy for human rights issues, specifically Syrian refugees. She has researched and consulted on a range of issues pertaining to education, violence, conflict, gender, household economics, forced migration, and activism, among others.
