Sam Liccardo

Sam Liccardo is the mayor of San Jose, California. He first took office in 2015 and was reelected in 2018 with 76 percent of the vote. Previously, Liccardo served two terms on San Jose City Council and was a criminal prosecutor in the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office. Some of his successes include settling battles over pension reforms with unions, leading a period of economic growth that includes expansions from tech employers, and securing new routes at San Jose’s international airport. Liccardo is also tackling homelessness, leading a regional coalition to raise the minimum wage, and guiding the city to rapidly decarbonize through a community choice energy program.
