Actor; Filmmaker; Co-Founder and Board Chair, Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE)
Sean Penn is an Academy Award-winning actor, filmmaker, author and humanitarian activist. In the aftermath of the catastrophic Haiti earthquake in 2010, he established J/P Haitian Relief Organization, which employed hundreds of mostly local people to provide emergency relief services but also longer-term education, community development, housing and economic opportunities. Penn is co-founder and board chairman of the nonprofit, which in 2019 was renamed CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) to reflect its expanded aid and recovery efforts to underserved communities across the globe, including to natural disasters such as hurricanes and the California wildfires, the war in Ukraine, the COVID-19 pandemic and the Sudan conflict.
