Sherrilyn Ifill
President and Director-Counsel Emeritus, NAACP Legal Defense Fund
Sherrilyn Ifill is president and director-counsel emeritus of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Previously, she was president and director-counsel of NAACP’s Legal Defense Fund from 2013 to 2022. Prior to this, Ifill taught at University of Maryland School of Law from 1993 to 2013, where she also litigated and consulted on civil rights cases and co-founded a legal clinic to remove legal barriers to formerly incarcerated people. Earlier in her career, Ifill was an assistant counsel at Legal Defense Fund litigating voting rights cases and a fellow of the American Civil Liberties Union. She is the author of “On the Courthouse Lawn: Confronting the Legacy of Lynching in the 21st Century.” Ifill was named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2021.
