Shibley Telhami is the Anwar Sadat Professor for Peace and Development at University of Maryland, where he directs the critical issues poll. He is also a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. Prior to this, Telhami taught at several universities, including Cornell, Ohio State, and Princeton. Previously, he advised every US administration from George H.W. Bush to Barack Obama. The author and editor of numerous books, including The Stakes: America and the Middle East and, most recently, The One State Reality: What is Israel/Palestine, Telhami’s forthcoming book is Peace Derailed: Obama, Trump, Biden, and the Decline of Diplomacy on Israel/Palestine, 2011-2022. He was named one of Washingtonian’s Most Influential People on Foreign Affairs in 2022.
