Shigeru Ban is the founder and principal of Shigeru Ban Architects. He is also the founder of Voluntary Architects’ Network, a nonprofit providing emergency housing to those impacted by natural disasters. Ban spearheads design for buildings and spaces for both SBA and VAN, working with materials ranging from paper tubes to mass timber for a portfolio of 200 projects across six continents including buildings, temporary structures, exhibitions, installations and furniture. He has been a visiting professor at Harvard, Cornell, and Columbia universities and currently holds a professorship at Shibaura Institute of Technology. A member of the Japan Art Academy, Ban has been honored with the Pritzker Architecture Prize, Praemium Imperiale in Architecture, and Mother Teresa Memorial Award for Social Justice.
