Shirley Torres is co-CEO of Homeboy Industries, a gang rehabilitation and re-entry program in Los Angeles where she has redefined public health and safety through innovative, care-based solutions. With Homeboy for over 20 years, she has been instrumental in the organization’s evolution from a single center into three campuses, including the Youth Reentry Center and the Homeboy Art Academy, impacting tens of thousands of formerly incarcerated and gang-involved people. As chief program officer, Torres co-created Homeboy’s 18-month reentry model, integrating healing, educational pathways and job training to disrupt cycles of violence, trauma and incarceration. Prior to that role, she was director of reentry services. A first-generation college graduate from South Central Los Angeles, she also holds a master’s degree from University of Southern California.
