Simon Godwin is the artistic director of the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, DC. He is also the 2023-’24 Harman/Eisner artist in residence at the Aspen Institute Arts Program. Previously based in London, Godwin was associate director of the National Theatre, where he directed Man and Superman, Twelfth Night, Antony and Cleopatra, and the world premiere of Hansard. Prior to this, he was associate director of the Royal Court Theatre and associate director at Bristol Old Vic. Godwin’s film version of Romeo and Juliet for PBS won top prize at the Venice International TV Awards, the Golden Prague award, and The Stage’s Digital Project of 2021 award.
