Sonita Alizadeh

Sonita Alizadeh is an Afghan rapper, poet, and activist fighting child marriage. At 16, distraught over her impending forced marriage, she wrote “Daughters for Sale,” which went viral. In 2015, she came to the United States, where she is now a student and international spokesperson for the rights of girls to choose their destiny. Alizadeh works with The Strongheart Group to share her message that child marriage can end in one generation. Her story is told in the documentary Sonita, and she has been featured by BBC and CNN as well as over 150 publications in 20 countries. Alizadeh was named one of Foreign Policy magazine’s 2015 Global Thinkers.
