Stephen Boppart is an Abel Bliss Professor of Engineering and faculty member of the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He directs the Biophotonics Imaging Laboratory and the Center for Optical Molecular Imaging. Boppart was founding director of the Mills Breast Cancer Institute at Carle Foundation Hospital and has co-founded three start-ups: LightLab Imaging, Diagnostic Photonics, and PhotoniCare. MIT’s Technology Review Magazine named him one of the Top 100 Young Innovators in the World, and he received the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Early Career Award, the Optical Society of America’s Paul F. Forman Engineering Excellence Award, and the Hans Sigrist Prize.
