Steven Keating is a research affiliate of the Mediated Matter group at MIT Media Lab, where he received his PhD in mechanical engineering in 2016. He has developed platforms for 3D printing buildings, biological wearables, and designed growth of next-generation products. Curiosity drove his research and saved his life through the accidental discovery of a brain tumor, successfully removed during awake brain surgery. An advocate for open patient data, Keating’s work has been covered by The New York Times, CNN, and The Boston Globe. He’s on the board of the Open Humans Foundation, was a member of the Precision Medicine Task Force, and was named to Forbes’s 30 Under 30 List.
