Sylvia Mathews Burwell is US Secretary of Health and Human Services, a position she has held since June 2014. She has led organizations in public and private sectors, most recently as director of the Office of Management and Budget. Prior to serving in the Obama administration, Burwell was president of Walmart Foundation and COO and president of the Global Development Program at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. During the Clinton administration, she was deputy director of OMB, deputy chief of staff to the president, chief of staff to the Treasury secretary, and staff director of the National Economic Council.
