Tariq Panja is a global sports correspondent with The New York Times. He joined the paper in 2017 and has led its coverage on the intersection of international sports, money, politics, and crime. Prior to that, Panja spent a decade with Bloomberg News in Europe and South America as an international sports correspondent covering many of the same themes. Earlier in his career, he was a reporter for the Associated Press and for the Manchester Evening News. Panja has covered numerous international events, including several Olympic Games and soccer World Cups. He co-authored Football’s Secret Trade, an exposé of how speculators infiltrated the multibillion-dollar global market for soccer players.
