Wayne Frederick is president of Howard University, where he is the Charles R. Drew Professor of Surgery at the College of Medicine. He is also a practicing cancer surgeon at Howard University Hospital. Before being appointed president in 2014, Frederick was Howard’s provost and chief academic officer, director of its Cancer Center, associate dean in the College of Medicine, division chief in the Department of Surgery, and deputy provost for health sciences. He started his academic career as associate director of th University of Connecticut Cancer Center. An expert on health care disparities, Frederick also speaks about and advocates for social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion. His board service includes the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and Humana.
