Chanel L. Porchia-Albert is founder and CEO of Ancient Song, a national birth justice organization working to eliminate Black and Latinx maternal and infant mortality and morbidity. Ancient Song provides doula training and services, community education, and advocacy for policy change to support reproductive and birth justice. Porchia-Albert has served as a maternal health strategist in Uganda and currently is working with the Ethiopian Ministry of Health to establish a doula program throughout Addis Ababa. She has consulted for the Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs and NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and helped create the Respectful Care at the Birth guide. She is a commissioner on the NYC Commission for Gender Equity. Ancient Song has been featured in CNN’s “Champions for Change,” The New York Times, SELF, and Vogue.
