Richard Blanco is a poet. He was President Obama’s Inaugural Poet in 2013 and most recently published the collection, How to Love a Country. Born in Madrid to Cuban exile parents and raised in Miami, Blanco authored three-award winning collections of poetry that negotiate cultural identity. He also wrote two memoirs, For All of Us, One Today: An Inaugural Poet’s Journey and The Prince of Los Cocuyos: A Miami Childhood; collaborated with photographer Jacob Hessler on the project, Boundaries; and had his inaugural poem, “One Today,” published as a children’s book. Blanco is a Woodrow Wilson Fellow, has taught at three universities, and serves as the Academy of American Poets’ first education ambassador.
