Donna Shalala is trustee professor of political science and health policy at the University of Miami. She has been president of the University of Miami, chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and president of Hunter College of the City University of New York, and served eight years as Secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services in the Clinton administration. Shalala was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Nelson Mandela Award for Health and Human Rights. She was elected to seven national academies, including the National Academy of Medicine, the National Academy of Education, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society. Shalala was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
